Assistance Type: WATER QUALITY ALERT RESPONSE
Reasons: Coliform
N/A

Details: SUMMARY: TC-positive DETAILS: 8-14-17 - RT sample collected 8-10-17 tested TC-positive. John has already shock chlorinated the well. I told him to wait until 0 chlorine residual and collect the triggered source and 3 distribution repeat samples. I added that 3 temp routines are due in Sept. He said that there has been recent repair work done to the well and that it may not have been properly disinfected. He said additional repairs to the system need to be done asap and that they may be hauling water while repairs are in the works.8-17-17 - John has posted "do not drink" notices in response to recent system pressure loss(es). He agreed to keep in touch and is aware that the notice will not be lifted until pressure is restored and a clean distribution coliform sample is obtained.8-23-17 - Water from MWC is being hauled to the storage tank and system pressure has been restored. John is going to collect 3 repeat samples from the distribution (he knows they are late) and if they are all coliform absent the "do not drink" directive will be lifted. He knows 3 temp routines from the distribution system are due in Sept. With regard to the well, it is off line and will be treated this Friday by a contractor with NSF approved chemical(s) (with the intent of removing some of the minerals at the pump screen level of the well) and then shock chlorinated.9-6-17 - Eric Grimm, USFS, said 3 repeats were collected and tested coliform absent (though not yet in SDWIS) and the "do not drink" directive has been lifted. He also mentioned there was a recent repair to a water line to a single family residence and a post-repair "special" sample tested TC-positive. I recommended that the distribution system, at least in the section with the single family residence, be shock chlorinated. At a minimum, I said the tap downstream of the repair location should be added to the coliform sampling plan. ACTION NEEDED: See above.
