Details: | SUMMARY: DBP compliance status DETAILS: HAA5 exceeded again in August, but no new violation as the RAA did not exceed. They could still meet the terms of their corrective action plan if the 4th quarter 2017 and 1st quarter 2018 samples are below the MCL. (As recounted in the 2/21/17 contact report, this alone would not be enough to reduce the monitoring schedule.) The system has not been executing one portion of their own corrective action plan, that of reducing the chlorine from 0.5 and higher to about half that. With the UV now, they only need to maintain a residual of 0.2 mg/L at the entry point. Jim will try to reduce this level going forward, but it is very difficult to do during the 3rd quarter when higher organics in the creek mean higher chlorine demand. If they dont keep adding more, it goes to zero. And its this chlorine consumption that causes the higher DBPs. It is clear that they will need to do something more or they will exceed again in future 3rd quarters. Jim is looking into reducing the water level in the tank at that time of year, by lowering the float or adding a second float lower. I suggested he continue to consider other measures as well. ACTION NEEDED: Await results of next quarterly DBP samples. | ||
