Details: | SUMMARY: General Assistance DETAILS: Dan Vaage from Civil West Engineering spoke with Mr. Claborn over the phone and made a site visit on September 29th, 2017. The system runs at quite a high pH and alkalinity, so it is unusual for there to be a corrosion issue, however, it was noted that the first user sampling location is at the water treatment plant and is very close to the mixed soda ash injection point. It is recommended that samples be taken from distribution points throughout the distribution system to ensure that first user testing is not recording “spiked” samples. We also recommend that per the EPA OCCT (Optimal Corrosion Control Treatment Evaluation Technical Recommendations for Primacy Agencies and Public Water Systems) that the system test for pH/alk/DIC (dissolved inorganic carbon) in the distribution system to determine the correct treatment method for corrosion control. ACTION NEEDED: City should evaluate test results and follow the OCCT to determine proper treatment method. |
