Details: | SUMMARY: Water Quality Complaint DETAILS: On 12/13/2006, I received a phone call from Gerald Barnes at Multnomah County Health Department. Gerald called to report a water quality complaint he received from a person at the Baskins-Robbins business in Troutdale. Gerald said the person was asking if the business needed to be closed down because the water coming from the tap was discolored. On 12/13/2006, I called and spoke with Kevin Rauch at the City of Troutdale. Kevin advised me a contractor was performing annual maintenance on the distribution system by flushing out the fire hydrants and this resulted in some debris being stirred up inside the distribution system. Kevin said the discolored water should disappear within one day or sooner. Kevin’s said the water is safe to drink since it is primarily iron and other secondary contaminants. Kevin said his administrative staff is aware of the problem at the business. I followed up and called Josh Mulcahy at Baskins-Robbins. I told Josh the water does not pose a health risk but is more of an unaesthetic or nuisance condition. Further, I explained there is no reason to boil the water and shutting down the business is not a decision we would make. Josh said he would discontinue serving water until the condition improved. |
