Details: | SUMMARY: Fecal coliform positive samples DETAILS: Late Friday 10/20, the water system received word that repeat water samples taken at different points in the system were fecal coliform positive. On Saturday 10/21, the water system took the following actions. Shock treated the water system with chlorine. Issued a boil water order to the water system users. Flushed the system to distribute the chlorine throughout the system. Took chlorine residual measurements throughout the system (residuals were 0.9 to 1.5 ppm). Follow up samples were taken on Tuesday 10/24. All samples were negative for both total coliform and E. coli. After consultation with school superintendent Greg Thede the Gilchrist Schools were closed on Monday 10/23. Additionally, the water system contacted Gary Burnett (DWP-Pendleton) and obtained the assistance of the Oregon Water Utilities circuit riders to identity and correct the problem. A large rodent nest was found in the storage tanks old water level float system. The nest was removed. Continuous chlorination was added to the well located at the school. The other wells will not be used. ACTION NEEDED: n/a |
