Details: | SUMMARY: Tracer Study of Sedimentation Basin using Granular Fluoride DETAILS: The plant uses a dry granular fluoride in its treatment process and normally carries a 0.9 mgl residual. Monitoring at the designated sample site was reported as stable 10-26 as 0.06 mgl. The tracer was scheduled for the following day. The plant was brought on line Thur at 11:20 with the Fluoride feed system off to confirm the base line residual reported by the operators. It became apparent with the first analysis that something had changed. Five samples were analyzed at five minute intervals with residual Fluoride measurements from .28 mgl to 0.6 mgl. Upon returning to the plant the operator noted that the plant had shut down based on a transducer reading. The next fifty minutes were spent testing the response at the sample site with the plant off and on. No fluoride was being fed throughout the plant on and off scenario. The surge condition with the plant on was obviously producing a flush of sediments containing granular fluoride residue from the basin floor to influence concentrations measured at the sample site. The operators indicated some recent problems with the Tran-Vac system. The study was stopped pending the cleaning of the Sedimentation Basin as well as work on the plant Transducer ACTION NEEDED: Advised system to call and reschedule Tracer Study. The City has scheduled needed repairs to the Transducer and basin cleaning for the Dec and Jan time frame. The cleaning required a distribution system outage for those customers prior to the storage reservoir. |
