Details: | SUMMARY: Distribution Pressure Problems DETAILS: The City owns and operates a surface water system, which supplies approximately 4,610 people through 1,580 connections. Surface water from multiple sources is treated with rapid sand filters with coagulation and flocculation and is chlorinated before being pumped to the reservoir. Currently City has approximately 60 homes with a subdivision that can have a static water line pressure below 20 psi. With the subdivision built at nearly the same elevation as the reservoir that feeds the homes, the static pressure is very low when the booster pump station is off line. The booster pump station does not have emergency power to maintain system. HBH was contacted by DWP to provide assistance with an investigation of the pressure problems in said subdivision. I visited with City to discuss issue and reviewed system plan and discussed failure modes with the City and DWP staff. I provided recommendations consisting of two options (1) installation of back-up power generator to provide for continuous operation during power outages, and (2) construction of a small reservoir up gradient from the subdivision. I visited City to inspect pump station and reviewed operation and design conditions of the pump station. ACTION NEEDED: Continue assisting system staff with on-going issues with pump station. |
