Details: | SUMMARY: fuel smell in water DETAILS: I got a call from Mark Wilson, 541-580-5475, on saturday. He had received a customer complaint about a fuel smell in the water. he confirmed the smell in a tank. they were on canyon creek at the time, and he did find out that there was an auto accident two days prior on a bridge over their source, and they have had significant rains in the last two days. he did not see a visual sheen anywhere, but said their intake is at the surface so catches substances floating. they have since swithced to Oshea creek and he has backwashed the filters. He was planning to sample for VOCs and maybe hydrocarbons, and flush out the system. Their chlorine residual was 0.8 ppm and the filters were working as normal. he wondered if there was more he should do, but I did not think a "do not drink" notice was warranted. they only had the one complaint so far, but I suggested they develop talking points (sampling, flushing, chronic health effects, not acute…) just in case. He will get the samples in to the lab on monday. He also notified downstream users. ACTION NEEDED: await sample results |
