Details: | SUMMARY: DBP Evaluation DETAILS: The City of Canyonville owns and operates a surface water system that provides treated water for domestic purposes to a full-time population of approximately 1650 persons, through 605 connections. The source for the City’s water is an intake on Canyon Creek. The treatment plant is a conventional rapid sand filtration plant with flocculation and sedimentation chambers. The City currently pre-chlorinates, adding sodium hypochlorite in the flocculation chamber. Following filtration, the additional post chlorination is done to achieve the desired chlorine residual. There were discussions about possibly eliminating the pre-chlorination, but the city does not have adequate contact time without this segment. In addition the water system uses the pre-chlorination for treatment purposes. At the request of Rebecca Templin, the water system contacted the Circuit Rider regarding DBP issues. The water system had exceeded the MCL on HAA5 in August and November 2015. According to the operator, there had been changes in the operational procedures in regard to reservoir levels. Visited with operator at the water treatment plant. Reviewed HAA5 results and how they potentially related to recent changes in operational procedures. Recommended system flushing and altering operational levels of the system reservoirs. ACTION NEEDED: Provide additional assistance if needed. |
