Details: | SUMMARY: CONTACT TRACER TESTING DETAILS: The City of Canyonville owns and operates a surface water system that provides treated water for domestic purposes to a full-time population of approximately 1650 persons, through 605 connections. The source for the City’s water is an intake on Canyon Creek. The treatment plant is a conventional rapid sand filtration plant with flocculation and sedimentation chambers. The City currently pre-chlorinates, adding sodium hypochlorite in the flocculation chamber. Following filtration, the additional post chlorination is done to achieve the desired chlorine residual. There were discussions about possibly eliminating the pre-chlorination, but the city does not have adequate contact time without this segment. In addition the water system uses the pre-chlorination for treatment purposes. The Circuit Rider was contacted by City staff to complete a new Contact Tracer study on the water treatment plant. The treatment process typically uses prechlorination prior to the treatment process as well as postchlorination. For the new test, prechlorination would be eliminated and only postchlorination used. This represents the worst-case scenario for the treatment facility. ACTION NEEDED: Develop methodology and perform tracer testing. |
