Details: | SUMMARY: Hexachlorocyclopentadiene detect DETAILS: I received an alert that there was a small detection of hexachlorocyclopentadiene (Hex) in April 2007. The level detected was 0.00008 ppm (8x10e-5). Kathy said that they detected a small amount (5x10e-5) in March, as well, but it was recorded in SDWIS as a ND. They decided to test quarterly anyway, hence this additional detect. Kathy said that the chemical can be a disinfection by-product, and it is an ingredient in at least 2 pesticides. These pesticides are not used in the watershed or near any vents, as far as they know. I checked the rules, and OAR 333-061-0036(3)(a)(C) Table 11 says that quarterly sampling is requried if the detect is equal to or greater than the value listed in that table. For this contaminant, that detection limit is listed as 0.0001 ppm, which is larger than the detections that the PWB found in March and April. I will verify with DMCA, but I interpret this to mean that quarterly sampling is not required. I will check with the DMCA unit to confirm with them. ACTION NEEDED: talk to DMCA, inform PWB of decision. |
