Details: | SUMMARY: Cryptosporidium detected DETAILS: On 1/6/17, Yone reported that a sample taken 1/2/17 found 2 crypto oocysts. A boil advisory was not required. Per the March 2012 variance Final Order, a press release was required, and information was to be posted on Portland Water Bureaus website. Also, Demonstration monitoring needs to begin no later than Sunday 1/8/17, which is at least 250 liters per week. On 1/9/17, PWB reported that the samples taken 1/3/17 also found 3 oocysts. This sample was still considered to be during Observation monitoring, and DWS determined that the low levels still does not warrant a boil water advisory, and that a new press release does not need to be issued since the information has not changed. PWB did not find anything unusual in their visual inspection of the diversion pool and intake. More widespread inspections will occur 1/10 when hopefully the weather will clear. They have quickened the turnaround time at the lab, and should get results within 2 days in the future. ACTION NEEDED: Demonstration sampling must be conducted for one year to determine if the watershed concentration is still less than 0.075 oocysts per 1000 liters. PWB will notify DWS within 24 hours of any subsequent detections. Communicable disease personnel are watching the reported crypto cases to see if there is an increase. |
